Agathe Toman is a self taught french artist, living between Biarritz and Paris. Her world is only black and white, sometimes she flirts with white and gold… Her dreamlike illustrations are made of biro pen and acrylic. She spreads her imaginary on paper, canvas, skateboards, surfboards or even walls. A link between the reality and fantasy.
She spreads her imaginary on paper, canvas, skateboards, surfboards or even walls. A link between the reality and fantasy. She has no limits, she talks about fear, love, anger, pain, death…all these emotions that built her throughout the stages of her path, her life, her future.
Black represents both contrasts, lights, darkness, and no mistakes allowed; it spreads feelings, emotions by each stroke, never mind if it’s abstract or figurative, it leaves no one indifferent. She works relentlessly with impressive details, trying to make all her illustrations alive and realistic within her surrealist and black universe.
There is always a specific message, a meaning and pattern in her art, but she is willing to leave the spectator express his own impressions and feelings according to his own story and unconscious, so she does not offer many clues about it.
From there, it becomes very interesting to share what each other feel about a same illustration or painting. “It’s about feelings, the ones that change your life and yourself – positively or negatively. Those feelings that affect the rest of your existence, the events of the most extreme manner that occur in your life. Each of my illustrations or canvasses represent one thing that changed my life in a way, for good or for ill.” From Huck Magazine, April 2016.

I created this project of 58 drawings (59) for the contemporary drawing fair DDessin Paris, March 2018.
Personal retrospective of two years of feelings embodied in 58 drawings of moons. The moon has become like a metaphor of myself those past years, more or less out of shape, but still a moon.
58 is the sum of two lunar cycles. The number 59 is the « Passage » between those cycles, which is obviously not a moon.
